The adoption of the Paris Agreement in late 2015 thrust the topic of climate change into the public spotlight and provided a much-needed impetus for discussions around sustainability at large. Energy utilities are at the forefront of this development as the decarbonization of power generation has become a focal point of efforts to mitigate climate change. Advances made by energy utilities have the potential to trigger vital knock-on effects and pave the way for significant shifts in other energy-intensive and harder-to-abate sectors such as buildings, heavy industry and transport.
