ISS Market Intelligence Report Reveals 7% Decline in UK Multi-asset Fund Sales

LONDON (26 April 2024) – ISS Market Intelligence (ISS MI), a leading global provider of data, analytics, insights, media, and events solutions to the global financial services industry, announces the release of its UK Multi-asset Fund Sales Report. This in-depth study offers invaluable insights into the landscape of multi-asset fund sales among financial advisers, providing a comprehensive overview of trends, challenges, and opportunities in the market.

In a detailed analysis, the report reveals a 7% decline in multi-asset fund sales during the second half of 2023. Despite a marginal 2% increase within the broader financial adviser channel, the report uncovers challenges faced by various participants, with only 28% of fund managers registering growth in multi-asset fund sales.

With a focus on regional dynamics, the report identifies pockets of growth amidst an overall decline in multi-asset fund sales. Notable findings include significant growth in Greater London and the South West, while Vanguard maintained its leadership position across regions.

The report provides a broader perspective on multi-asset sales, examining their significance, utilisation, and key beneficiaries in the market. Noteworthy discoveries include the concentration of sales within pension wrappers and the growth in sales of multi-asset funds that directly hold securities opposed to using a fund-of-funds (FoF) structure.

Furthermore, the study highlights the opportunities available to fund managers through FoF structures, revealing trends in sales and insights into the composition of underlying funds. Leveraging ISS MI’s Simfund platform, the analysis shows a nearly equal distribution between UK and cross-border domiciled FoFs, along with insights into who is winning active and passive mandates.

“We are excited to present the UK Multi-asset Fund Sales Report, which alongside our UK Model Portfolio Sales Report, offers unparalleled insights into the UK multi-asset solutions market,” said Benjamin Reed-Hurwitz, Associate Director, EMEA Research Lead at ISS MI. “These two reports equip financial advisers and industry stakeholders with the necessary tools to navigate challenges and capitalise on emerging opportunities in the ever-evolving landscape of multi-asset solution sales. A landscape that accounted for 70% of all fund sales in 2023 within the financial adviser channel.”
